Leadership and Team Development

This course is for project and program teams and managers working in complex environments.  The course uses a Team Management Profile diagnostic to understand work preferences and how they can be used to build team performance levels, team effectiveness and job satisfaction.  It also includes additional focus on the leadership of complex projects.

Aim

This is a specialised qualification that builds on the skills and knowledge of existing workers who have experience in the field of people management or project/program management and/or an awareness of complexities that exist in organisations.

This unit is designed to provide you with an opportunity to reflect on your own leadership style and preferences, understand your work style and work style preferences of others, and better understand the characteristics of leadership relevant to complex environments. You will apply some frameworks, techniques and practical approaches to develop your leadership qualities and capabilities to address the challenges of leading in complex environments. This practical application will enable you to think about and learn new ways of working.

Workshop Outline

In this workshop you will learn to:

  • Use several frameworks and activities for self-reflection to enable participants to identify what it is that motivates them;

  • Learn different styles of leaderships, and explore approaches for adapting your leadership style to suit the situation and the people you engage with;

  • Use a Team Management Profile (TMP) tool to understand individual and team work preferences to maximise performance in a complex environment;

  • Use frameworks which support managers and leaders to better inform themselves about the decision making processes in ambiguous and changing project contexts;

  • Evaluate and develop practical leadership skills in relation to different leadership styles and how they assist us to work in complex environments effectively.
