In April ICCPM was awarded a $500K Skilling Australia’s Defence Industry (SADI) grant to deliver the project Skilling Australia’s Defence SMEs to Manage Complex Projects in collaboration with Team Downer MSP. Under this project, 227 training positions will be made available to senior project professionals from 28 ICCPM Organisation Members.

ICCPM would like to thank Team Downer for their support. Through their Corporate Partnership, ICCPM will support the ongoing organisational development of the participating SMEs and the application of skills to defence projects.

The participating companies include 3 SMEs servicing defence from the Australian space sector. Building skills in complex project management within these companies will not only support the improved performance of defence projects, but it will support the growth of Australia’s emerging space economy.

Course Delivery

The course deliveries have already begun! Three full cohorts of the Certificate IV have completed their first workshop Complexity in Project Environments. Two full cohorts of Effective Stakeholder Engagement in Complex Projects and one cohort of Essential Skills for Navigating Project Complexity with a Complex Project Simulation, have completed their courses. By the end of the SADI project a total of 43,729 hours in learning and knowledge sharing will have been delivered.

Certificate IV in Responding to Project Complexity (10916NAT)

A course that inspires open-minded thinking and allowance for others’ opinions. I was able to engage not only with colleagues and managers but family and friends as well. It has helped me develop a vocabulary around the complexities that I see not only at workplace but in my personal interactions.

I loved this course. It is a comprehensive course on project complexity – relevant to the now. I’d recommend it to all project & program managers regardless of whether or not you think you do complex projects.

Complexity surrounds us. Knowing how to identify and respond to complexity where it exists is an invaluable leadership skill.

Great experience and great course. I would recommend to anyone looking to get a certificate in complex project management.

As someone who was new to project management, I still got a lot out of this course. It’s been a fantastic experience and I highly recommend it.

Very good collection of theories and frameworks to identify and demystify complex situations.

Effective Stakeholder Engagement in Complex Projects

Great conceptual course for thinking about stakeholder engagement in complex project environments. The mix of theory and discussion (practice) was useful and helped bring different perspectives to the projects we were working with.

The ability to listen to other course participants experiences and how the course material is related to real world circumstances – this is something that cannot be obtained from learning materials.

Excellent content and delivery. The course offered a good breakdown into sections to help process information and concepts more easily.

The ICCPM course enabled a framework for me to help communicate a more adaptive approach to our decision, collaborative and management processes. Highly recommended for all staff and not just project managers.

– Peter Kinne, Gilmour Space Technologies

The ICCPM Effective Stakeholder Engagement in Complex Projects is a really great 3-day course that extends on general project and business management by introducing concepts that you’d not normally be exposed to. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve their ability to respond to complex business scenarios.

I found this course very helpful in providing me with tools I can use in my project to improve our stakeholder interactions and assessment of the current status of our project which will also help us to progress to a healthier position.

Essential Skills for Navigating Project Complexity with Simulation

Had a great two days. Came out with some new skillsets to bring back to work. Great workshop.

I had a fantastic experience on this course and I can’t wait to get back into the workplace and use the skills acquired. I really got a different point of view working with the team in the simulation.

Excellent blend of theory and scenarios. Well delivered in a “remote” learning environment.

This is a great course, even for relatively experienced project managers who want to learn about complexity and how to manage it in a project setting.

The ICCPM facilitator provided an enjoyable and thorough short course introduction on “essentials skills for navigating complex stakeholders” that all project stakeholders would benefit from attending to ensure they understand their role and contribution to a projects successful outcome.

How can my organisation benefit?

If you are an Australian defence SME with an ABN and less than 200 staff, you are eligible to apply for up to $500,000 through the SADI program. Under the current SADI program, SMEs can apply for funding to cover the full cost (100%) of training in STEM and project management, including travel costs.

We hope you will apply to join one of our advertised courses either online or in-person. ICCPM will include a free Individual Membership for all SADI-funded participants.

Organisations can also apply for SADI funding to cover in-house delivery of the course of their choice at a time of their choice for a minimum of 12 participants. This is a great opportunity to apply the tools and frameworks to your own projects during the training whilst developing your project team. ICCPM will include a free Organisation Membership (valued at $5,000 +GST) for all SADI-funded in-house courses.
