Up::1
Its time to provide a quick update to ICCPM members about the MRC SIG and its Working Groups.
Attached is a draft report. We have to provide it to the magazine editor ASAP. We are keen to get comments from SIG Members on the report BUT we need those comments within the next day or so.

As discussed, attached is a paper on Cognitive Edge’s SenseMaker system, which includes the use of Signifiers
Oops- file size too large. here is the link:
Up::2Fascinating post by a leader in the successful implementation of public sector IT projects
Steve has pioneered the approach of leaving the core platforms alone and making progress using Agile developments over the top of the platforms
He has been kicking goals
It might not translate to every context but the principles are valuable
Up::1I have included the additional question suggested by Santosh in the survey tool
The revised survey can be accessed here
https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/WGB_V2
Any and all comments most welcome
Up::1I tidied up the previous SurveyMonkey structure and did what I could take account of points made by the rest of the team
I might have missed some nuances in my notes so please shout if anything jars
The revised survey is available at https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/WGB_V1
See you Thursday
Steve
Up::1Dear All
The following media article shows how ‘deck chairs’ are rearranged when projects or portfolio of projects are seen to have failed/failing:
I’ve not yet seen the new recommended structure or processes and have little understanding of current situation – but this would be a great time to be transforming to manage ‘complexity’ better rather than trying to improve traditional project management approaches. There might be an opportunity here for ICCPM to propose an alternative analysis – with a recommendation that complexity is dealt with differently…. i.e. perhaps a restructure is not the main answer.

Up::1Hi Steve,
This was a short look at the issue of trust which has been raised several times in Group B. It is looking at the issue how do we get people to engage with us and talk about complexity. Richard and I put it together to ask Colin about how we should approach ICCPM Fellows/members, and Colin though it was worth putting out to see what sort of response we might get.
Updated response is now 10 responses out of a total of 30 ICCPM Fellows.
This is not the survey you have proposed and group B are working on. I hope these short questions on trust and engagement might help to inform us on how we should approach people on the real questions of PMs and project owners using complex methodologies and thinking in projects – as you have proposed.
The results of the survey so far are attached
Cheers
Davin

The survey we sent out to Fellows of ICCPM:
Dear ICCPM Fellow,
The ICCPM Managing Risk in Complexity Special Interest Group (MRC SIG) has two working groups. Working Group B is tackling the question:
“How can we “wake up” project leaders and stakeholders who are reluctant to accept or apply complexity methods and models?”
We know that trust is an important factor in whether people are willing (or able) to change how they think and work. Yet by itself is not always enough. We would value your experiences, thoughts and insights on the following questions:
How can we establish trust or at least a willingness to engage, with people who are currently locked into ‘reductionist’ ways of thinking and working in and on projects?
What other barriers might prevent project leaders or stakeholders from shifting their perspectives and behaviours?
Or are these the wrong questions? Feel free to make suggestions.
Has only produced 4 responses to date. I wonder if the members of Group B can encourage Fellows they know to also undertake the survey, so we can get a wider range of views for our meeting this Thursday.
Cheers
Davin
Up::0Thanks Davin Shellshear for the transcripts. For some reason I could not find the Zoom meeting invite for 22/07 (change from 2week to 3week interval). Did the rest of the group get updated invites from ICCPM?
Re the questionnaire, great discussion on Stephen’s model and commentary from the group.
I have two suggestions to make:
a. I would suggest the questionnaire to include both leading and open questions
b. Recently I have completed the ‘2021 Global Survey on Transformation and Project Management’ for PMI and PwC which took close to 30mins. They have added a completion bonus from PMI – a free PMI course worth USD280! Can we offer something similar from ICCPM to the participants to encourage their active and truthful participation?
Looking forward to our next meeting. Thanks
