ABOUT THE WEBINAR

This webinar will introduce fundamental academic research on the application of computational complexity theory (CCT) to human decision-making.

CCT studies the computational resource requirements of solving computational problems. This webinar will present a brief introduction to the theory followed by the results of a series of laboratory experiments investigating the effects of computational complexity on human decision-making. This includes its effect on decision-making under stress, as well as when given tools to help solve the problem.

WEBINAR AIM

Participants of this webinar will learn about:

  • A brief introduction into computational complexity theory (CCT)
  • The results from a series of laboratory experiments investigating the effects of computational complexity on human decision-making
  • Findings about the effect on decision-making under stress, and when given tools to help solve the problem
  • Live Q&A session with the speakers

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Karlo Doroc is a PhD Candidate in Decision, Risk and Financial Sciences at the Centre for Brain, Mind and Markets at the University of Melbourne.

Karlo Doroc is a PhD Candidate in Decision, Risk and Financial Sciences at the Centre for Brain, Mind and Markets at the University of Melbourne. Karlo’s current research involves human decision-making on computationally complex problems, risky choices, and when under stress.

Karlo’s background is in Finance and Economics. Prior to commencing his PhD, he spent over 5 years working in financial services with both PwC and Link Group.

.

Dr Pablo Franco from the University of Melbourne

Dr Pablo Franco is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Brain, Mind and Markets at the University of Melbourne. His research interests lie at the intersection of human decision-making and neuroscience. In particular, Pablo is interested in understanding how computational resource constraints affect decision-making. He studies how these constraints affect human capabilities and how humans cope with these biological limitations.

Pablo holds a PhD in Decision, Risk and Financial Sciences from the University of Melbourne and, prior to that, he completed degrees in Mathematics, Economics, and Neuroeconomics. Between degrees Pablo worked at the central bank of Colombia as an analyst in the financial stability department.
