Dr David Hillson CFIRM PMI-Fellow HonFAPM
The Risk Doctor
Presented by ICCPM Managing Risk in Complexity Special Interest Group (MRC SIG) and
the Institute of Risk Management (IRM) Risk & Complexity Special Interest Group
About the presentation:
Responses to crisis and stress in the business and project environment have focused around development of robustness and resilience. Recent global events have highlighted weaknesses in both these approaches. Antifragility might be a valuable addition to the armoury, but little progress has been made in finding practical implementations of the concept since it was first proposed by Taleb in 2012.
In this keynote presentation, David Hillson clarifies the antifragility concept, distinguishing it from resilience. Using three metaphors, he then outlines four distinct types of antifragility: innate antifragility, adaptive antifragility, rheopectic antifragility, and emergent antifragility. These form an antifragility taxonomy that can be applied at both whole-organisation level and to individual projects and programs, especially those that are large and complex. David’s presentation ends with some possible application areas that can be used in practice to develop true antifragility in businesses and their projects and programs.
